The 2024 Mitsubishi L200 is the latest generation of the popular midsize pickup truck that has been sold in various markets as the Triton or Strada, since 1978. The new model promises to be a game-changer in the segment, offering a completely redesigned exterior and interior, a new ladder frame chassis, a new diesel engine, and a host of advanced features and technologies.
The 2024 Mitsubishi L200 pickup truck was unveiled in July 2023 at an event in Bangkok, Thailand, where the truck is manufactured and sold as the Triton. The launch was accompanied by a teaser campaign that revealed some of the key aspects of the new pickup, such as its "Beast Mode" design concept, its new suspension system, and its new diesel engine.
The "Beast Mode" design concept is meant to express the toughness and powerfulness expected of a pickup truck while also incorporating Mitsubishi's signature "Dynamic Shield" front face that conveys a sense of protection and performance. The 2024 Mitsubishi L200 features a boxy and rugged body with a large grille, split headlights with LED daytime running lights, muscular fenders, roof rails, and a rear spoiler. The truck also has a lower cargo bed for easier loading and unloading and a reinforced frame with a step in the bumper corner for improved practicality.
The new new Mitsubishi L200 pickup truck pickup truck is available in three body styles: single cab, club cab, and double cab. The double cab version has a wheelbase of 3,000 mm (118.1 inches), a length of 5,305 mm (208.9 inches), a width of 1,815 mm (71.5 inches), and a height of 1,795 mm (70.7 inches). The cargo bed measures 1,520 mm (59.8 inches) in length, 1,470 mm (57.9 inches) in width, and 475 mm (18.7 inches) in depth.
The new ladder frame chassis of the new Mitsubishi L200 is claimed to be 60 percent more rigid than the previous generation, resulting in better handling, stability, and durability. The pickup truck also has a new double-wishbone front suspension and a leaf spring rear suspension that have been optimized for both on-road and off-road performance. The truck has a ground clearance of 220 mm (8.7 inches), an approach angle of 31 degrees, a departure angle of 23 degrees, and a ramp break-over angle of 25 degrees.
The 2024 Mitsubishi L200 pickup truck is powered by a newly developed 2.4-liter four-cylinder diesel engine that comes in three output levels: 148 horsepower (110 kilowatts) and 330 Newton-meters (243 pound-feet) of torque, 181 horsepower (135 kilowatts) and 430 Newton-meters (316 pound-feet) of torque; and 201 horsepower (150 kilowatts) and 470 Newton-meters (346 pound-feet) of torque. The engine is paired with either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission, both featuring shift-by-wire technology.
Depending on the configuration, the Mitsubishi L200 pickup truck also comes with either the Super Select 4WD-II or the Easy Select 4WD system. The former is more sophisticated and features a center limited-slip differential that distributes torque between the front and rear axles according to the driving conditions. It also has five modes: two-wheel drive (2H), four-wheel drive high range (4H), four-wheel drive high range with locked center differential (4HLc), four-wheel drive low range with locked center differential (4LLc), and rear-wheel drive with locked rear differential (2HLc). In addition, it has seven driving modes: Normal, Eco, Gravel, Snow, Mud, Sand, and Rock.
The latter is simpler and has three modes: two-wheel drive (2H), four-wheel drive high range (4H), and four-wheel drive low range (4L). Both systems are controlled by a rotary dial on the center console.
The interior of the 2024 Mitsubishi L200 pickup truck has been completely reimagined as well, featuring a horizontal axis design that emphasizes width and spaciousness. The dashboard has a tablet-style infotainment system with an eight-inch touchscreen that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also has a seven-inch digital instrument cluster that displays various information such as a speedometer, tachometer, fuel gauge, odometer, trip meter, outside temperature, compass, clock, driving mode indicator, warning messages, maintenance information, and more.
The cabin also has soft pads on the main areas that protect passengers from impacts while enhancing comfort and quality. The steering wheel has audio controls, cruise control buttons, phone buttons, voice recognition buttons, lane departure warning buttons, forward collision mitigation buttons, and paddle shifters for the automatic transmission models. The center console has a cup holder that can accommodate two large cups and a console box that can hold tablets, files, and four 600-milliliter bottles. The seats are covered with fabric or leather, depending on the trim level, and the front seats have heating and ventilation functions.

The pickup truck will compete with other midsize pickups such as the Toyota Hilux, Ford Ranger, Nissan Navara, Volkswagen Amarok, Isuzu D-Max, and Chevrolet Colorado. The price of the new model has not been announced yet, but it is likely to be slightly higher than the current model, which starts from around $33,000 in Thailand.
